The body of a 60-year-old man who was swept into floodwaters near Santa Teresa in the Northern Territory has been found by police. The man was washed off the roof of a vehicle on Wednesday evening after it became stuck in a swollen creek on Phillipson Bore Road, about 80km southeast of Alice Springs. His companion walked to the community to raise the alarm, prompting a search using helicopters and drones. He was found on Saturday afternoon, about 10km from where he was last seen.

Thames Valley Police have stopped a driver for the third time in six months without a licence or insurance. The vehicle was seized on 27 October, and the driver faces another court appearance. On the same day, another driver's vehicle was seized in a Lidl car park in Wantage after their insurance was found to be over a month out of date.

A pre-inquest review has been scheduled for November 2026 into the deaths of four people killed at a house in Costessey, Norfolk, in January 2024. Natasha Kuczynska, eight, her sister Yosita Jasmin Kuczynska, twelve, their father Bartlomiej Jakub Kuczynski, forty-five, and their aunt Kanticha Sukpengpanao, thirty-six, were discovered with fatal knife wounds to their necks. An inquiry by the Independent Office for Police Conduct is examining Norfolk Constabulary's handling of emergency calls made before the tragedy, after it emerged that Kuczynski had called police shortly before 6am expressing concerns about his mental health and saying he had a knife and had 'lost the plot'; he was advised to seek medical assistance and officers were not dispatched.

Harry Houdini, the Hungarian-born escape artist and magician, died 100 years ago on 31 October 1926, aged 52. Whilst his official cause of death was peritonitis from a ruptured appendix, theories about alternative causes have circulated ever since. These include a punch to his stomach, an intestinal blockage, and murder by people working as spirit mediums whom he had been exposing as frauds.

The Adam and Eve, near Norwich Cathedral, claims to be Norwich's oldest pub and has gained a reputation for being haunted. Landlady Rita McCluskey, who has run the site for 25 years, reports that customers have experienced mysterious taps on the shoulder and vanishing keys. The spirits said to haunt the pub include Lord Sheffield, a Tudor nobleman killed during Kett's Rebellion in 1549. The pub has been a popular starting point for Norwich Ghost Walks for nearly 30 years.

A teenage boy was hit by a car at the junction of Simmons Court and Easy Road in East End Park, Leeds, at 6.24pm on Friday. The boy was rushed to hospital. A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving whilst over the prescribed limit and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

A new Currys store has opened in Cambridge a few doors down from its previous site at Cambridge Retail Park. The shop features an upgraded gaming zone, digital screens and hands-on demonstration areas, along with a Currys Business Hub for local businesses, recycling points, a front-of-store event space and an order and collect area. Currys will use the Cambridge location to trial new features that could be rolled out across its UK and Ireland network.

One lane is closed on the M1 between Thorpe Hesley and Meadowhall. Three out of four lanes were previously closed but have since reopened. The remaining lane is expected to be cleared around 1.30pm.

More than 120,000 dolphins have died in the Black Sea since Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, according to Ivan Rusev, head researcher at the Tuzly Lagoons national park in southern Ukraine. Explosions, missile launches and military sonar systems are confusing the animals and blocking their echolocation, leaving them unable to hunt and navigate. Fishers find dolphins suffocated in nets and cut off their fins to release them. The dolphins then draw on blubber accumulated with pollutants from wastewater, agricultural runoff and microplastics, compromising their immune systems and leaving them vulnerable to respiratory infections.

Police are appealing for the public's help to find David Devlin, 35, who absconded from HMP Kirkham in April 2026. Devlin was serving a 22-year sentence for violent offences at the time of his escape.

Humberside Police are appealing for help to find Kieran, 28, who was reported missing from his home in Grimsby on 28 October at around 11.20am. He is described as around 5ft 7in tall with long dark hair, and was last seen wearing a grey tracksuit jacket with the hood up, black bottoms and carrying a green rucksack. Police believe he may have links to Durham, Middlesbrough and Preston in Lancashire. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting log 156 of 28 October.

F1 TV presenter and double amputee Billy Monger is visiting schools in the North East and North Yorkshire on 5 and 6 November for Macmillan Children's Books' Operation Storytime project. On 5 November he will visit Chopwell Primary School and Emmanuel College in Gateshead. On 6 November he will visit schools at Catterick Garrison, including Carnagill, Wavell and Cambrai schools, where many pupils have parents serving in the Armed Forces. He will discuss his book Find Your Drive, which draws on his motorsport career and life as a double amputee since age 17, and will lead interactive events and Q&A sessions aimed at building children's confidence through reading.

The St Ives and Hemingfords Walk is a five-mile circular route in Cambridgeshire starting and finishing at Houghton Mill. The largely flat walk follows the River Great Ouse through water meadows and historic villages including Hemingford Grey and Hemingford Abbots, passing cottages, medieval churches and riverside views. Facilities along the route include a tea room and gift shop at Houghton Mill, a National Trust historic working watermill, plus traditional pubs in nearby villages.

Bar Hill Community Association has been granted funding for a permanent Christmas tree to be planted on parish council land ahead of a November lights switch-on. The scheme will cost £2,807.20, with the parish council funding £1,000 and the district council covering the remainder. Some councillors raised concerns about maintaining the tree through heatwaves.

This Land, the council-owned housing developer, may face a cash shortfall of up to £7.7m by March 2029 against its loan obligations to Cambridgeshire County Council. East Riding of Yorkshire Council is planning to install metal palisade fencing at the Grade I-listed Sewerby Hall and Gardens near Bridlington after existing wire mesh was cut and removed from a site access road. Cambridge thief Lisa Bradley was jailed for 20 months after stealing more than £1,000 worth of goods in a two-week crime spree. The 42-year-old targeted businesses including M&S, Superdry, Next and Typo, as well as stealing a parcel from outside a home. She pleaded guilty to five counts of shop theft and one count of theft at Cambridge Magistrates' Court on 23 October.

Police shut down a Halloween house party in Whittle-le-Woods after fireworks were fired towards nearby houses and children were found under the influence of alcohol. About 150 people attended according to Lancashire Telegraph, though BBC Lancashire reported over 200 teenagers. Three children were arrested at the scene; one was de-arrested and taken home, another held on suspicion of possessing cannabis, and a third on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly. The homeowner barricaded the front door to stop more teenagers entering. One child was injured and taken to hospital with non-serious injuries. Police said the gathering was closed due to a breach of the peace.

Pope Leo XIV is to hold a private audience on Saturday with basketball teams from his alma mater Villanova and fellow Catholic university Notre Dame, plus about 7,000 travelling American fans.
