A new law affecting five banned dog breeds comes into force today. From 1 November 2026, owners must not leave children under 12 in close contact with their exempt dogs in private settings without adult supervision. Breach of this condition of exemption can result in dog seizure, prosecution, up to six months in prison or a fine of up to £5,000.
