Brazilian senator Bolsonaro flees to US after election defeat
Brazilian Senator Flávio Bolsonaro landed in Miami on Wednesday after fleeing Brazil despite a court order barring him from leaving.
Brazilian Senator Flávio Bolsonaro and his family landed in Miami on Wednesday after fleeing Brazil. Bolsonaro lost Sunday's presidential runoff election to incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and has refused to concede. He defied a Brazilian Supreme Court order to surrender his passports, issued as part of a money-laundering investigation in which he denies wrongdoing. The US State Department issued visas to Bolsonaro and his family. He travelled via Argentina and Ecuador to reach Florida, reportedly using Italian citizenship documents. His Senate term expires in late January 2027, when he will lose his parliamentary immunity from prosecution.
